About ToolJury

Honest SaaS tool comparisons by a small team that actually tests the products. No sponsored rankings, transparent affiliate disclosures, no clickbait.

What ToolJury is

ToolJury is a small, independently-run comparison site for SaaS and consumer software. We pick categories where the buying decision is genuinely confusing — VPNs, web hosting, email-marketing platforms, password managers — and write head-to-head comparisons that try to give a clear answer instead of hedging.

We test the products ourselves where possible, pull pricing directly from each provider’s site (verified at the date stamped on each comparison), and explain how we reached the verdict. When the answer is “it depends,” we say so and explain what it depends on — your budget, your threat model, your team size, your country.

What we don’t do

  • No “top 10” listicles where every product is praised equally. Our verdicts pick winners and explain why the loser lost.
  • No sponsored rankings. No company has paid us to rank their product higher than another. Our affiliate partnerships (see below) do not influence our verdicts.
  • No fake reviews. Every comparison is written by a human and reflects an actual position. We use AI tools for research and drafting, but the editorial judgement is human.
  • No claims we can’t back up. We don’t say “the most secure VPN” — we say “audited by Deloitte in 2022 and 2023, with the limitations of that audit framework.” Specifics over superlatives.

Affiliate disclosure

We earn a commission on some of the links on this site. The way it works:

  1. You read a comparison and decide a product is right for you.
  2. You click through one of our affiliate links to that product’s site.
  3. If you sign up, the provider pays us a referral commission. You pay the same price you would have paid otherwise.
  4. We use that revenue to keep the site free, pay hosting bills, and fund the time we spend writing.

Current affiliate partnerships (as of April 2026): NordVPN, ProtonVPN (RevShare on Mail / VPN / Pass / Drive). We are not affiliated with ExpressVPN, Surfshark, CyberGhost, Mullvad, Hostinger, Bluehost, SiteGround, Mailchimp, or any other product we compare. As we add new partnerships, we’ll list them here and add disclosures to the relevant comparison pages.

Critically: the affiliate relationship doesn’t change the ranking. NordVPN won 3 of our 4 NordVPN-vs-X comparisons because of its actual specs (price, speed, server count, audit history) — and lost the 4th to Surfshark on raw value. We disclose every NordVPN affiliate link with a note. We didn’t change ProtonVPN’s ranking when its affiliate was approved — Proton was already declared the winner of the Mullvad comparison before we had any commercial relationship with them.

How we update comparisons

Every comparison page has a “Pricing verified [Month Year]” stamp at the top. We re-check pricing across the entire site quarterly, and we re-write entire comparisons when major product changes happen (a new audit, a price hike, a security incident, a feature redesign). When you spot something out of date, email us — we fix verifiable errors quickly.

Methodology

For VPN comparisons specifically, we evaluate on these axes:

  • Pricing — both intro and renewal rates, with money-back terms
  • Speed — based on independent benchmarks (AV-TEST, PCMag) and our own connection tests where applicable
  • Privacy — audit history, jurisdiction, ownership transparency, breach history
  • Server network — total servers, country coverage, specialty servers (streaming, obfuscated)
  • Streaming reliability — Netflix region access, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, etc.
  • Restricted-country viability — UAE, Turkey, China specifically (not all VPNs work in all countries)
  • Features — kill switch reliability, split tunneling, multi-hop, ad-blocker quality
  • Apps — quality on iOS, macOS, Windows, Android, Linux

For web hosting, email marketing, and other categories, the criteria adapt — but the structure is the same: clear axes, verdict per axis, overall verdict that names a winner.
